THE ART OF STORYTELLING: MONOGRAM AND PENSKE

As brands continue to search for new ways to connect with their audiences in a world filled with so many media opportunities, sometimes the simple process of traditional yet artful storytelling is far more compelling than any effort propelled by hashtags and retweets. In 2014, Penske turned to production company Monogram to tell the story of their business’s deep integration and key role in the operation of many of America’s well-known brands. The result is STORIES THAT MOVE US, a collection of short films produced by Monogram, each telling the story of a different organization that relies on Penske trucks.

Monogram Director/DP Justin Shipley and Executive Producer Marie Patriarca have been at the wheel for each of these two-minute stories, traveling around the country, discovering the surprising array of businesses that depend on Penske’s fleet to accomplish their missions. From acclaimed craft brewer Victory Brewing Company to Goodwill Industries International, Monogram captured these stories using a docu-style approach with a cinematic look and feel, enhanced by the use of new technology and equipment, including MöVI camera stabilization and Phantom Flex4K high-speed image capture. Monogram’s crew went behind the scenes at massive bakery Alpha Baking Company in Chicago and into the vast warehouses of appliance and electronics retailer PC Richard & Son in New York, shooting and interviewing everyone from forklift operators to chief executives.

After editorial, graphics, and color grade by Monogram, the result is a series of films that gives a truly interesting look into a diverse set of companies united by the spirit of American enterprise and by their partnership with Penske. Penske management has been so delighted with this work that they have decided to double the number of episodes Monogram will produce.  “Our project with Monogram was seamless.
